An Image Based Society of the Spectacle.
I would posit that Tumblr posts consist mostly of image macros featuring some kind of reference humor, images meant to define tastes, interests or describe personal events, and short quotes that quaintly represent ideologies. In other words, a collection of potentially thorough personality or demographic profiles. Now, is this personality something you are, something you assembled, or something ascribed to you?
If you are, then you are.
If assembled, where’d the parts come from?
If pinned to you, why and who?
Identity becomes an exchange of individuals all trying to be cool for each other.
